What paraffin does for your hands
When you dip your hands in melted paraffin, a warm layer forms that holds heat and moisture in the skin. Once removed, the skin feels softer and more supple. That's why it's a common treatment in manicure and in caring for hands exposed to cold, water or detergents.
How to do a paraffin bath step by step
- Cut the paraffin into pieces and melt it in a double boiler or a heater with a thermostat.
- Always check the temperature before applying it. The ideal application temperature is around 55 ºC.
- With clean, dry hands, dip them 3 to 5 times, letting each layer set. You can also apply it with a brush.
- Cover your hands with cling film or thermal gloves and wrap them in a towel.
- Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Remove the paraffin and finish with a moisturising cream.
Precautions
- Don't exceed the recommended temperature, and test it first on a small area of skin.
- Don't apply it to wounds, cuts, burns or irritated skin.
- Don't reuse paraffin that has already been used on another person or in another treatment.
- If you have circulation problems, skin sensitivity issues or any medical condition, consult a healthcare professional first.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between hand paraffin and candle paraffin?
Hand paraffin has a lower melting point (48-50 ºC) so it can be applied to the skin at a comfortable temperature. Candle paraffins usually melt at 56-58 ºC or higher and aren't intended for cosmetic use.
Can paraffin be reused?
Reusing paraffin that has already been in contact with skin isn't recommended. Use clean paraffin for each treatment.
How long should paraffin stay on the hands?
Between 15 and 20 minutes, with the hands covered in cling film or thermal gloves and a towel to keep the heat in.
Where can I buy paraffin wax for hands?
You can buy it directly from the manufacturer at Naturcera, in formats from 25 to 150 kg, with shipping to Spain and the European Union.
