Description
Description
Cetyl alcohol of 100% plant origin, in white flakes. This fatty alcohol works as a co-emulsifier, thickener and emollient: it stabilises emulsions and gives creams and lotions body and a velvety finish. It is not an emulsifier on its own, so it is combined with other emulsifiers.
Features
- Ingredient (INCI): Cetyl Alcohol.
- Origin: 100% plant-based.
- Form: white flakes.
- Melting point: 45–52 °C.
- Solubility: insoluble in water, soluble in ethanol.
- Usage rate: 2–10%.
- Functions: co-emulsifier, thickener, emollient and stabiliser; reduces water loss from the skin.
Recommended uses
- Face and body creams, moisturising lotions and nourishing creams for dry skin.
- Balms and hair care products.
- W/O (water-in-oil) formulations and high-fat creams.
- For formulators, natural cosmetics makers and brands.
Tips for use
- Add it to the oil phase and melt at 45–52 °C together with the oils.
- Heat the water phase separately, combine both phases and stir until cool.
- Add actives and fragrances below 35 °C.
- Guideline doses: 2–5% as co-emulsifier or emollient; 5% for water absorption; 2–10% to add consistency.
- Do not use as the only emulsifying system. May cause sensitivity in very reactive skin.
- For cosmetic use only, do not ingest. Store tightly closed in a dry, cool place away from light.
