Description
Description
A saturated fatty acid of plant origin (palm, coconut) used as a hardening additive in candles and as an emulsifier in cosmetics. At 2-5% of the wax weight it hardens soft waxes such as soy or coconut, makes unmoulding easier, increases opacity and extends burn time.
Features
- Format: white flakes / beads
- Colour: white
- Origin: plant-based (palm, coconut)
- Melting point: 54-72 ºC depending on grade
- Dosage in candles: 2-5% of total wax weight
- Dosage in cosmetics: 1-25% depending on application
- Storage: cool, dry place
Recommended uses
- Soy wax: 3-5% for firmer moulded candles
- Coconut wax: 2-4% for easier unmoulding
- Soft paraffin: 3-5% to increase hardness
- Vegetable wax blends: 2-5% as needed
- Cosmetics: creams and lotions (2-5%), soaps (1-3%), balms (5-15%) and solid sticks (15-25%)
- For crafters who formulate their own blends and for candle and cosmetics manufacturers
Tips for use
- Work out 2-5% of the wax weight: for 1 kg of soy wax, 30-50 g of stearic acid.
- Add it with the wax when melting and stir until fully incorporated. Then continue as usual (fragrance, pouring...).
- Do not exceed 5%: the candle can become brittle and burn poorly.
- It increases opacity and gives a whiter, matte finish. For translucent candles or bright colours, leave it out or reduce to 1-2%.
- Not recommended in soy container waxes already formulated to adhere to glass, as it can cause pull-away and cracks.
- For cosmetic use, check that the grade is suitable for that application.
