Every scented candle sold in the European Union must carry a label that complies with the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, written in the language of the country where it is sold. What goes on the label depends on the fragrance you use and its percentage: two candles made with the same wax can need different labels. Our generator works out yours for free from the safety data sheets of our fragrances.

Why the label changes with the fragrance
Wax and wick do not add any hazard classification. It is the fragrance, and above all the allergens and substances it contains, that determines which pictograms and statements must be shown. The higher the fragrance percentage, the more significant the classification can be. That is why the label is calculated for each fragrance + percentage pair, based on section 3 of the safety data sheet.
What a candle CLP label includes
| Element | When it appears |
|---|---|
| Product name | Always |
| Name, address and phone number of the person placing the product on the market | Always |
| Nominal quantity (net weight) | Always |
| Hazard pictograms (for example, exclamation mark or environment) | If the mixture is classified |
| Signal word (“Warning”) | If the mixture is classified |
| Hazard statements (H317, H412…) | Depending on the classification |
| Precautionary statements (P101, P102, P501…) | Depending on the classification |
| EUH208 statement “Contains… May produce an allergic reaction” | If an allergen exceeds the threshold without classifying the mixture |
| UFI code | Depending on the classification of the mixture (poison centre notification) |
Candle-specific safety warnings (never leave a burning candle unattended, keep out of the reach of children…) follow standard EN 15494 and are added to the CLP label.
How our generator works
- Choose one or more Naturcera fragrances and their percentage in the wax.
- Enter the net weight of the candle and your contact details.
- Select the label language.
- The calculator applies the CLP Regulation rules (concentration limits and additivity methods) using the real data from our SDS and shows the label ready to print.
The calculation is for guidance only and is valid only for our fragrances: if you add dyes, additives or fragrances from another source, the result is no longer valid.
Documentation for our fragrances
Every Naturcera candle fragrance comes with its safety data sheet, IFRA certificate and allergen certificate. You will find them on the product page and on the technical documentation page.
Frequently asked questions
Is a CLP label mandatory on a handmade candle?
Yes, as soon as the candle is sold or given away as part of a business activity, even in small batches.
Can I write the label in another language?
No. The label must be in the official language of the country where it is sold: French for France, German for Germany, and so on. Our generator prepares it in several languages.
Do I have to redo the label if I change the fragrance percentage?
Yes, the classification depends on the percentage. Recalculate the label for every new recipe.
Where can I find the rules for selling candles?
We explain them in our guide to the regulations for selling candles.
